During their 4,000 mile trek, The Journey of Hope bicycle riders will make a stop in Glenview on Wednesday, July 18, to raise money for children and youths with disabilities. For the third year in a row, a Glenview nonprofit, A Big Blast Project, has been chosen as one of their many stops during the Push Through America this summer. The objective of The Journey of Hope riders is to reach out to as many families with special needs as they can. During their stop in Glenview, A Big Blast Project is hosting a picnic for them to meet and get to know families in the Chicago area with a fun-filled afternoon.
“We're honored to be hosting the Journey of Hope riders again, and we'd love to see the Glenview community and surrounding areas pitch in. The only way we’re able to host a free picnic celebration open to all families touched by special needs is with the community’s help,” Rhonda Penzell, president and founder of A Big Blast, said.
“We want to express a heart felt thanks to those already committed to helping make this event a blast for all the kids, and hope others will jump on the bandwagon,” Penzell said. These sponsors include Glenview State Bank, Hillerichs, Reagen Meats, Harrison Poultry, Fifth 3rd Bank, Del Vasey Statefarm, The Door Store, Associated Bank, Kinnetic Konnections and the Glenview Women of Today.
All of these local businesses have either donated supplies, food or money, and are all excited to be a part of the event. Dave Kreiman, Vice President of Glenview State Bank, said, "We're thrilled to again be a part of Big Blast's Journey of Hope Celebration picnic. The bike riders are so inspiring, and we love having them stop in Glenview.”
The picnic will be held at Flick Park in Glenview on Wednesday, July 18, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free for all families with special needs and will include a BBQ, dancing, games, tattoos, face painting and Ronald McDonald magic show. There will also be a Tae Kwon Do demonstration from one of A Big Blast’s classes. The afternoon will culminate with a baseball game organized by NSSRA.
