Kiwanis, UNICEF Partner on Halloween Night

For the 16th year the Kiwanis Club of Evanston is partnering with the school children of Evanston and Skokie to support UNICEF with a goal of ridding the world of maternal and neonatal tetanus by 2015.

Neonatal tetanus affects 60,000 babies and 30,000 mothers annually. Symptoms are excruciating …but the disease can be eliminated through vaccines and skilled staff people.

Since the inception of the program in Evanston, children and trick or treating households have raised over $59,000.  All monies collected go directly to UNICEF..no monies are used by Kiwanis or UNICEF for administrative expenses.

Look for trick or treaters on Halloween and help fill their UNICEF boxes.  Children from most District 65 schools, District 202 and St. Athanasius will participate.  Other area schools interested in participating can contact Dr. Scott Hopf, 847-475-4270.

So we ban Halloween activities from school but we still exploit children to raise money for UNICEF ?

Do we give them instructions during class time that should be spent raising thier test scores?

How hypocritical is this?
