7-Eleven Employee Robbed at Gunpoint

About $1,600 worth of Newport cigarettes and $800 of cash was stolen from a 7-Eleven in Skokie on Sept. 2.

A 7-Eleven employee was robbed at gunpoint on Sept. 2 around 7:20 p.m.

According to police, two men entered the store at 3441 Church St. and approached the front counter. One of the suspects then leaned over and pointed a black and silver colored semi-automatic pistol at the clerk.

“Open the drawer and give me all of your money,” the suspect told the employee, according to the report. “And cigarettes, too. And open the safe.”

About $800 was taken from the cash register and 160 packs of Newport cigarettes were removed from behind the counter. The estimated value of the smokes was placed at around $1,600, the report stated.

Both subjects failed to open the safe, according to police. The culprits then left the store and fled westbound on Church Street.

The first suspect was described as a black male, about 5-foot-10, 35 to 45-years of age with a muscular build. The second subject was also described as a black male, about 5-foot-10, 35 to 45-years of age with a muscular build, the report stated.

No injuries were reported.

Evanston is getting to be like the wild west. We need a concealed carry law since the city does not seem to be able to deal with the crime. I have not seen a single comment from any alderperson about this for months. The crimes are reported in a very dispassionate way as if they are traffic accidents. Maybe time to move.

I read the headline and instantly knew it was the Church Street store before I read the story. That store gets robbed too often and you'll never find me shopping there.
