Cops: Teen Made Up Story About Attempted Abduction

Police were originally looking for a black man in his 30s after a 14-year-old boy told police he was nearly abducted. However, a police investigation reveals that event never happened, police said.

Update 12:12 p.m. -

After "aggressively investigating" a case involving an attempted child abduction on a 14-year-old boy, Skokie police have realized that the whole story was made up.

"The claims are completely unfounded," said officer Joe Marzigliano. "It never happened."

The reasoning behind why the teen allegedly made a false report isn't clear, police said.

It was originally reported that a black male, about 30 to 40 years of age, 5-foot-10, thin build, mustache, black short hair, balding and wearing a black coat attempted to abduct a 14-year-old boy. His description was given to police by the 14-year-old and the information was then sent out to schools and parents by police.

"We just wanted to get the information out there that this guy doesn't exist," Marzigliano said.
