Wow that is terrible, Anyone that drives in that area though can tell you the (Beautification islands) make it very dangerous to pull out on to main street.
You just can't see what is coming. Usually people pull in to the middle of the road and stop. I see it every day. Frankly I'm surprised there aren't more accidents.
How tragic.

My heart goes out to this boy's family. How sad. Not only do the beautification island cause a problem but cars parked close to the intersections cause a hazard too.

I agree, the "beautification" is senseless line of sight blocking stupidity. Not to mention people fly down main street. The 30 miles per hour speed limit is a joke because no one follows it and police don't enforce it. I can't even count how many times I drive the speed limit and have cars either tailgating or spending around me. This is a very tragic loss of an innocent child's life & my heart aches for his family.

So sad for the child's family...heartbreaking. Skokie needs to lower the speed limit on all streets as Evanston does, posted on every read leading into the city...to avoid more senseless tragedy.

I agree with all of the comments about the islands as well as the way the cars are parked. I live on St. Louis and that is a very dangerous intersection. Hopefully things will be evaluated and changes will be made. I feel so sorry for the family - I bet he was such a sweet little boy.

I feel very sorry for the family because this child was an innocent victim of an accident that could of been avoided.
Was this accident caused by the island or the parked cars, NO. it was caused by a person that used bad judgement. Instead of pointing blame at an inanimate object it is about time that people started using better judgement and taking responsibility for there actions

I was so sorry to hear of this, and offer my deepest condolences to the little boy's family. I live on East Prairie, and must use a differnt street to turn East onto Main. I find the cars parked on Main to be an obstruction when turning left OR right onto Main - it's difficult to see cars coming either way. And yes, many people are traveling too fast on a street that has a couple of schools, ball fields, playgrounds, etc. along it.

elizabet - what a horrible travisty!! We just can't slow down. Forget about the islands, or about the stop signs, or yield signs. We run into windows of retail stores, we hit parked cars, we text and talk and do our make up all while we are driving out of control to go nowhere. Now look what has happened. Oh my God!!! That poor family, that poor animal, that poor store owner. All because we are in a hurry to go nowhere. In parking lots we drive out of control, no respect for each other. What has happened here has nothing to do with the beautification of Main Street, and not being able to see East to West but, again.....in a hurry to go nowhere.

I just spoke to a woman who saw the whole accident and she said the car that hit the little boy was speeding and she had a young boy in the car with her. I hope in the future she stops and learns to slow down instead of speeding around town.

I agree with Elizabeth Burton. Someone's son died, changing forever the life of his family because someone's daughter made the mistake of being self-involved, too self-involved to be focused and clear-headed while driving, to slow down, and to look around her. I am so sad for both families, the Vo family and the Goma family. My prayers to them as they desperately deal with the fact that the events of Monday afternoon can not be changed.

I take my daughter to Middleton school and pick her up everyday and drive back home through the St. Louis turning west on Main .if u are a careful driver the intersection is ok although a lot of car parked can cause us not to see if cars are heading east (just have to make a good judgement b4 turning) ...I feel sad about what happened to the boy and the driver....

Having read the comments I went thru that intersection ... again... which I have gone by thousands of times and made left turns onto Main from the side streets an equal number. I carefuly observed the sight libes at this and other intersections...again. IMNSHO there is absolutely no issue with the sight lines as a result of the median plantings.

People fly down main and ignore north south stop signs...maybe the accident would of happened ,but if everyone was going SLOWER the car probably would not have ended up on other side of street.Like I said on another thread I live on main off the corner my house and my tree have been hit twice that I know of and whenever I'm home for a week off I'm guaranteed to hear or see an accident .Saw a little girl get hit by someone rolling through and my neighbors car was rearended while parked legally on main while waiting for her son to take him to practice.If he had come out to put his equipment in the trunk a minute sooner he would have been dead too! The mother had to be cut out of car!I contantly get tailgated on main and see people run the stop signs on a daily basis while traveling to and from work.
