The devastating two-car crash that sent four people to the hospital and split one vehicle in half was a result of speeding and driving under the influence, according to police reports.

Kara Nadine Lamb, 28, of the 7000 block of North Wolcott Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving with no valid proof of insurance.

Police reported that Lamb was driving eastbound on Oakton Street when her tan Pontiac collided with a Toyota Camry as it tried to make a left-hand turn onto Oakton from Kenneth Avenue. They also mentioned that a witness saw Lamb's vehicle traveling eastbound on Oakton at a "very high rate of speed" before the accident about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, they found an empty bottle of vodka and another of schnapps. Police also reported that they "immediately noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverages" on Lamb.

Lamb was later transported to St. Francis Hospital, where doctors told police she had a blood alcohol concentration of 250mg/dl, which is well over the legal limit of .08.

Lamb's boyfriend, who was interviewed at the hospital,  said she is suffering from emotional problems and that the two of them were experiencing relationship issues, according to the report. He also noted that she had called him before the crash to say that she was on her way home from a friend's house in Des Plaines.

Ironically, police also found an application for traffic school in Lamb's car. It showed her name and driver's license information.

Meanwhile, there is still no word on the three others that were involved in the crash.

A devastating accident involving two vehicles left one car split in half and sent four people to the hospital about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

At publication time, Skokie police said it was too early to confirm much of the details regarding the accident. However, an officer at the scene said that three people were transported to St. Francis Resurrection Hospital in Evanston and one was taken to Skokie Hospital.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Oakton Street and Kenneth Avenue when a tan Pontiac hit a Toyota Camry as it was travelling eastbound on Oakton Street, a police official said.

The Camry sat near the middle of the intersection, with its roof and rear end torn apart. Its other half was about 100 feet north of the collision site. Police said that three people were inside the Camry and they believe that "nobody has any life-threatening injuries."

About a block east of where the initial accident occurred, the tan Pontiac showed severe front-end damage near Oakton and Kostner. The impact compressed the vehicle to about two-thirds of its actual size.

Ronald Poles, one of the many onlookers along the crash scene, said he's "never seen anything like it."

"That [tan sedan] must have been traveling at a high rate of speed to rip apart that car," Poles said.

Duni Nonah was standing outside with her family near their townhouse near Oakton and Kenneth.

"We heard a big boom," she said while pointing to the other half of the Camry. "The noise was so loud, like an explosion. I just hope everyone is OK, dammit. It's just so sad to see this. I've never seen anything like it."

Police said they were continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
