Tonight on WTTW: 'Skokie: Invaded But Not Conquered'

A Highland Park native will have his documentary, "Skokie: Invaded But Not Conquered" air on WTTW-Chanel 11 tonight, Thursday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m.

Almost anyone from Skokie knows the story about the Nazi march that never happened.

In 1977, Frank Collin tried to lead the National Socialist Party of America to hold a rally in Skokie, which at that time was considered to have the largest Jewish population in the country.

The rally never happened. And ironically, it was later revealed that Collin himself was Jewish.

Tonight, Thursday Jan. 24, WTTW-Channel 11 will air Skokie: Invaded But Not Conquered at 8 p.m. It will also run again on Friday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m.

According to Robert Feder's blog, "Todd Whitman, who wrote and produced the documentary for the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, grew up in nearby Highland Park and vividly recalled the tumultuous period.

“This program was a good opportunity to revisit these monumental events — the scenes of racism and anti-Semitism from the Chicago Nazis, and the intense free speech legal battles that took place,” Whitman told Feder.

"Collin," not "Collins." Looking forward to Todd's piece.
