Romney should provide specifics
Gregg Baker
10:52 am on Thursday, October 4, 2012
During the debate Romney offered many specifics. Obama did not.
I wish Obama would provide specifics. The only specifics I have heard from Obama is that bin laden is dead and Bush is to blame for the mess. The other specifics he promised he did not deliver upon. Closing Guantanamo is one he promised, but it is still open. There are a lot of other promises he made that are not fulfilled.
In his 4 years he has not delivered on his promises, including the one that said if he couldn't get it done in 3 years he would be a one term president. Maybe he can deliver on that promise.
He campaigned on Hope and Change. We still hope things will be better and we have seen a change for the worse. All we hear is that Bush is to blame. What? Was Obama surprised when he got into office? He didn't know about the debt that he so vehemently opposed as a Senator and candidate and then suddenly embraced as a president?
Candidates don't offer specifics before they are elected for many reasons. One is that they do not have control over much of what they would like to do. Plus, broadcasting ahead of time does not lend itself to compromise later.

Romneys plan is to create good jobs that will employ people, not to put people on government assistance it's that simple.
Gregg Baker

Obama cannot create jobs although he promised. Romney cannot create jobs. Only demand from customers can create jobs. The government can only create an environment to help foster demand for American products. That means if consumers have more money to spend that can help stimulate demand. Raising taxes takes money out of the economy and crushes demand. Especially when people are worried about their jobs.
The clearest difference between Obama and Romney is their vision for America and the future. Romney sees a smaller, less interfering government. Obama sees a larger, more involved government.
Personally, I don't want a government telling me what I can and can't do. If I want to give my money away I want the right to choose to whom that money goes. I don't need the government's help in redistributing my income. I can do that on my own, thank you very much.

Am I the only one who was offended by Romney's disregard for the commentator? What was he trying to prove, that he is stronger than a commentator? Just because someone lets you walk on his back, doesn't mean you should. I was really offended. Is that the way he treats people who he has an advantage over, people who are weaker, poorer, sicker, etc. than him?
And that comments about how he worked with the Democrats in Mass. I bet you that not one Democrat stood up when he became governor of Mass and said, we are going to make sure he is only a one-term governor. They knew they should work with the legally elected governor of their state. Give kudos to the Democrats, not to Romney.

When you vote for Obama and get 4 more years of this, I hope that meets your needs.

Obama is doing the best he can as a community organizer, with that said romney is an intelligent businessman who has the correct plan to get the small business sector going. We do not need four more years of government run policies.

The President didn't trash Romney because it is very difficult to debate with a liar. Romney is a lost case....he is a flip flop... and think we do not watch TV ....i do not know how he can survive after the "cut tax to the wealthy"... "the 47% case recorded", just an dishonest person can go ahead and persist!

Oddly enough, despite your protests about jobs being shipped overseas, I suspect that you buy the products that were once made here. isn't that a bit duplicitous?
When Obama stops Boeing from putting NEW jobs (not relocated or replacement jobs) but NEW jobs in a right to work state and makes Boeing put the jobs in a union state that does not bode well for the next time Boeing wants to build a plant. At that point, it would make sense to take the plant off shore. That is the government chasing the jobs away. They want to do the same with Gibson guitar in buying wood from India. Obama wants the wood processed in India which creates jobs there, not in Nashville. That takes away the jobs in Nashville. Both of these examples are the truth. Obama talks a good game, but without his teleprompter and an adoring press, he is not as good as he thinks he is. I wish he was better. I wish he had solved the problems he inherited. He didn't. He has to go.

It is not about me individually deciding if I buy China or US products! It is about our government making tools available to the society to progress.
Republicans for 8 years asked US citizens on TV to go shop China "sht" what would we expect to be left with???
TOOK 8 YEARS TO DESTROY USA ECONOMY. GIVE THE SAME TIME TO BE FIXED. THE UNEMPLOYMENT IS LOWER AND THE USA CONFIDENCE IS BACK.
Republicans drove us to the bottom! Remember Romney and his despise for 47% of the population! AND HE SAYING IS GOING TO CUT TAX ON RICH! HE HAS NOT PRESENTED SPECIFICS ON HIS TAX PLANS. WHAT HE PRESENTED IN THE 1ST DEBATE IS EXACTLY WHAT OBAMA HAS BEEN DOING!
ROMNEY FLIP-FLOP PINOCCHIO! For him, the truth has very little significance in the campaign.

I agree with you Carla, I thought the same: "Am I the only one who was offended by Romney's disregard for the commentator? What was he trying to prove, that he is stronger than a commentator? Is that the way he treats people who he has an advantage over, people who are weaker, poorer, sicker, etc. than him?

With everything that is going on you are offended that someone MAY have been dismissive to the moderator? Are you kidding me? Aren't there more important things to discuss?
All politicians are dismissive at different times. Obama has been dismissive. Biden has been. Al Sharpton has been dismissive. So what???
And please, stop blaming Bush. Yes, he was a bad president. We elected Obama to fix what Bush created, not make it worse. Unfortunately for us, Obama made it worse. He was not as transparent as he promised, he did not close Guantanamo, did not bring the parties together. The seas continued to rise and the planet did not heal.
We need solutions. We don't have time to play the blame game. We don't have that kind of luxury anymore because the government has squandered the time and the money away. We are in big trouble. We need a leader who can take us out of the mess that was created and then made worse.

Stop blaming Bush?? Romney is another Bush coming! Obama is not worse, he is excellent; look at the UNEMPLOYMENT now, it is DOWN!
Took Republicans 8 years to destroy the country and Obama is to be given 3 ½ years to fix the whole mess created? IT IS NOT FAIR! Obama didn’t bring the parties together because Republicans and Tea Party are the parties of “NO NO” and as we remember well, Republican Speaker John Boehner said was his job to make sure that Obama would be an 1 term President. Republicans are united to destroy this President – as never before w/ any - because they do not accept a black man in the presidency; bunch of racists and radicals!
If we own the country to China is because we put 2 wars on the credit card…and I remember Bush on TV asking us to go out and shop and shop...shop what China products? They are the ones that sent jobs to China! The ones that de-regulated the banks and send money oversea… Romney if elected will be the 1st President with money in Switzerland.
Just remember took Republicans 8 years to destroy USA, Democrats need the same time to fix it AGAIN, as Clinton DID!

US should know better what Romney will do if elected!!!Think about Buuuuush! Will be another mess!
Clinton left US economy in order and Bush spent 8 years destroying it.... and Republicans expect Obama to fix economy and unemployment in 3 years! Please! It took 8 years with Bush destroying it, how can we expect less than to have it fixed??

You are right, Bush ruined much of the economy. Was that a surprise to Obama when he took office? He certainly didn't have a plan that worked. The stimulus was a disaster. The count of jobs was highly corrupt and inaccurate. I know that from first hand experience and how they created jobs here in Chicago for 10 months and then brought in different people for the same jobs and to do the same thing for another 10 months and counted the jobs twice. That didn't keep anyone working for longer than 10 months. What kind of plan is that? Pretty lame....

Answering Gregg above, "Was that a surprise to Obama when he took office? ", if stimulus didn't take place you and I wouldn't be here talking. We would be without the money that our employer deposit in the bank. The banks without money wouldn't have a way to honor their obligations to our money (worker middle class); the money with had put there would have disappeared!
If there are jobs not created it is because these position do not exist anymore; some will never come back! We didn't invest in education! Don't we have many outdated employees? How long don't you sit in a classroom Gregg ?? DO NOT EXPECT THE GOVERNMENT TO CREATE JOBS FOR THE ONES THAT DO NOT LIKE UPDATING! These jobs were already shipped to China by Republicans!

Carolina, there is no room to compromise on the debt. If you understand it, you know that. If you don't, then you should probably spend some time getting familiar with the concept of not being able to pay the bills and defaulting on the debt and what that will do to the world economy. The Chinese and Japanese don't loan us money anymore because we are a bad credit risk. Carter started the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) and that put the focus on loaning money to people with bad credit and without a track record of being able to pay it back. Then the Clinton Administration (I am a Clinton fan) repealed Glass-Steagall. That put the CRA on steroids and the created the real estate bubble that crushed the economy. Yes Bush created some of the problems by spending too much, but the seeds for the problems had been planted years before. Glass Steagalll was created after the Depression to prevent it from happening again. It kept a firewall between commercial banking and consumer banking. Once that wall fell, insurance companies wanted to be banks, banks wanted to sell stocks and insurance, and the paperwork requirements dwindled. Not a recipe for success.

Yes I understand it, but I also understand that took Republicans 8 years to destroy USA economy with their strict mentality of enrich the rich and ship jobs oversea...and we CANNOT expect Democrats to fix the economy in 3 1/2 years!! How dare, how cynic are the Republicans!

I agree with Mayor Swiderski, Romney wasn't lost saying things like, "that's how we do business, and, that's how we will continue to business." You're a joke Swiderski
