Medical Professionals Sought for State Emergencies
Illinois Helps database wants people to register as volunteers in case of a disaster or emergency.
If you are a medical professional, the state of Illinois wants you to register in a database of volunteers who can be called upon in the event of a disaster or emergency.
The Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, Illinois Department of Public Health and Chicago Department of Public Health released a new public service announcement today to get the word out about the database, called Illinois Helps.
“More than 3,700 Illinoisans are already registered with the system and may be called upon to respond to any number of emergency situations including blizzards, disease outbreaks like H1N1 and bioterrorism attacks,” according to a press release announcing the public service video. “Illinois Helps also allows hospitals to verify the licenses and credentials of professional health care volunteers who come to their facilities to care for the influx of patients experienced during emergencies.”
Non-medical professionals can also register with the database to volunteer in the event of an emergency.
