Monday Blotter: Bogus Lawsuit; Flyer Dispute

Sidewalk graffiti

Police responded to a criminal damage compliant in the 8100 block of Lorel Avenue on Oct. 12. According to the report, several vulgar words were written using white spray paint on the sidewalk.

Sale flyer dispute turn violent

A woman was attacked in the common area of her apartment in the 9100 block of Kilpatrick Avenue because she grabbed two sale flyers from the mail instead of one. According to the report, another tenant struck the victim in the left shoulder, stating she was only entitled to one flyer.

The victim told police she was planning on throwing out the flyers, as nobody ever collected them. No charges were filed.

Stolen phone

A man reported that his cell phone was stolen while dinning at Portillo’s restaurant in the 9400 block of Skokie Boulevard on Oct. 12.

Bogus lawsuit

A man came into the Skokie police station to report a deceptive practice on Oct. 10. According to the report, a law firm stated they were going to take legal action against the victim for downloading copyrighted content from the Internet.

The man contacted the firm and told them he never downloading anything. The party responded by instructing him to pay $3,400 to make the claim go away. The man refused to pay and is seeking legal advice.
