Monday Blotter: Woman Greets Burglar

Police responded to an attempted burglary in the 8900 block of Bronx Avenue on Nov. 8. According to the report, a woman was in the kitchen washing dishes when she heard noises coming from behind her door. The woman told police that she thought it was her husband coming home from work so she went ahead and opened the door, the report stated.
However, when she opened the door she saw an unknown person “with a look of surprise” and holding a long screwdriver, according to the report. The suspect would soon flee the scene.
The offender was described as a black male, about 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, with light skin and a goatee, police said. No arrests were made.
Missing unit from Zelda’s Sweet Shoppe
An air conditioning unit valued at $4,000 was reported stolen from Zelda’s Sweet Shoppe, 4113 Main St., on Nov. 19.
Two laptop computers and numerous pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from a home in the 8600 block of Gross Point Road on Nov. 25. The man told police he was just returning home from a vacation and realized his home had been burglarized.
A watch, Apple iPhone and passport were reported stolen from a home in the 4100 block of Church Street on Nov. 12.
Samuel M. Sagan, 18, of Skokie, was charged with underage drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 13. According to the report, Sagan was sleeping behind the wheel in the 3500 block of Church Street. He had a blood alcohol content level of .132, the report stated. His court date was Nov. 8.
