Officer's Squad Car Strikes Pedestrian in Skokie

A Chicago resident sustained several broken bones and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston to treat injuries after being struck by a Skokie police squad car.

A Skokie police officer pursuing a speeding SUV struck a pedestrian around 9 a.m. today.

The man – a 33-year-old Chicago resident – sustained non-life threatening injuries, but was hospitalized with several broken bones, police said. The officer driving the squad car is a 25-year veteran and was uninjured after the incident.

The accident happened early this morning in the 3500 block of Church Street when the officer saw an SUV speeding in a school zone while monitoring traffic.
