Pep Boys Skokie Catches Fire

Fire Departments from Evanston, Skokie and Morton Grove were all on scene.

Several fire departments responded to a blaze at auto parts store Pep Boys, 5222 Touhy Ave., around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

At least five fire trucks from Skokie, Evanston and Morton Grove were on scene. Captain Jeff Hoeflich of the Skokie Fire Department said there were no injuries, but said the inside of the auto parts store was in "bad shape."

"The fire started on the west end of the store and the cause [of the fire] is still under investigation," Hoeflich said. "It was very smoky inside and I'd imagine [Pep Boys] is going to be closed for a few days; there was a lot of water damage as well."

Firefighters positioned their trucks in the front and rear of the store and used a ladder to climb the roof of the store. Hoeflich added that neighboring PetCo, which houses a variety of animals, was unaffected by the fire. At time of publication, no further information was available.
