Police Arrest Teens for Auto, Garage Burglary Spree

Wilmette detectives have charged three Evanston teens for their involvement in several burglaries that occurred in Skokie, Wilmette and Kenilworth.

 

Wilmette police have arrested and charged three Evanston teens for their involvement in a spree of garage and auto burglaries that occurred in Wilmette, Skokie and Kenilworth over the past three to four weeks, police said. 

“The three juveniles made independent statements admitting to their involvements in the theft,” the release said.

One of the teens was charged with possession of stolen motor vehicle and non-residential burglary, police said. The teen admitted to being involved with the theft of a Nissan Altima that was later recovered in the 900 block of Chestnut Ave., according to police.

The second teen was charged with possession of stolen property and non-residential burglary. The third teen was charged with possession of stolen property.

Between June 9 and 10, a dozen auto and garage burglaries occurred in Wilmette in the neighborhood just west of Green Bay Road and between Lake Avenue and the Evanston border, police said. 

Wilmette police are currently seeking others involved with these cases.

“We continue to encourage residents to lock their property,” the release said. “It is significant to note that each of these thefts and burglaries involved unlocked cars and garages.”
