Police have released a sketch of a man they believe is responsible for attacking, robbing and hijacking a Skokie woman on Jan. 26. The incident occurred in the 4800 block of Carol Street around 12:12 p.m. as the woman was unloading groceries from her SUV, police said.

"The reason the sketching doesn't have any hair or eyebrows is because the offender was wearing a hood," said officer Joe Marzigliano.

The man was described as a tall white male, about 20 to 25-years-of-age with a skinny build, police said. According to the police report, the offender was wearing a hood and black jacket at the time of the robbery.

The woman's vehicle - a 2004 silver Toyota Highlander - has yet to be recovered. The license plate number is 7118755, according to police.

The attacker tried to steal the woman's purse, but a struggle ensued. She was ultimately sliced in the back with a sharp object, according to the police report. The woman's son also intervened and briefly placed the offender in a headlock, but the man would get away with both the woman's purse and her vehicle, police said.

The victim was later transported to Evanston Hospital to treat non-life threatening injuries. She received several stitches as a result of the attack, Marzigliano said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Skokie Police Department at 847-982-5900. Callers can remain anonymous, police said.
