What an eyesore. Tear down that fleabag hotel.

No! It's so cute and yes, iconic. Not everything should look so corporate and cookie cutter. I used to love the buffets when it was a Hyatt.

Needs to be torn down.
Look at Park Ridge development across from the Pickwick.
Thats what is needed, not this greedy developers bait and switch.....
Lincolnwood trustees need to be BOLD!!!

I am glad to hear that the building is saved (for now). Lincolnwood benefits if the developer is able to use its shell and infrastructure to rebuild it as a new hotel facility. Several years ago, the village board had the foresight to pass an "inn tax," which is a per Diem fee on each rented room. Not unlike sales tax, occupied hotel rooms can provide needed revenue for a municipality. Granted it's an eyesore, but it is also a very sturdy building. Building a new hotel from scratch, would apparently cost significantly more if the structure were razed. Progress seems to be underway as the former suit store immediately to its west came down about a week ago.

Glenview just approved a new higher end grocery store for their old downtown Dominicks site. Dominicks site is being torn down.
Lincolnwood should follow Glenviews lead for such a prominent site. They should all agree with the trustee that voted to raze this hazardous eye sore.........
There is no upside to local citizens in keeping that eyesore.
There may be benefits for the city as noted above but that would be a shame.
This is a once in a generation opportunity to get this right.

I believe it was the blind hymness, Fanny Crosby, who once sang "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot," though I could be mistaken.

And while this "Purple Hotel" you speak of may be no paradise, it is one of the few edifices in the shire of Lincolnwood with any character.

Why, I remember when my school chum Louie Sullivan's buildings were razed by Dick Daley in the name of "renewal." The Garrick Theatre, the Stock Exchange, the Zion Temple. All gone in order to install nondescript blocks of needless consumerism and parcels to "park" horseless carriages.

It reminds me of how my great-grandchildren, in their impatience to inherit my fortune, have long conspired to "pull the plug" and euthanize me. I might be well into my second century, but I can still do some good, even if that amounts to penning the occasional missive to this fine periodical, "The Patch."
