Cars drive really fast down this street and it should be monitored or cameras installed. Especially where the sign ( stop for people walking) So many cars do not stop for the kids that are crossing the street. I'm surprised there hasn't been more causalities.

No. Only if in a crosswalk.

However, for pedestrian right-of-way a crosswalk is defined as either a marked crosswalk or an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection. So, if this was at "Lawler and Grant" as the article states (wherever Grant is) then it was within a crosswalk.

I hope there will be a task force formed to discuss safety around Niles North.

Tonight at 7pm there is a meeting of the Public Safety Task Force, which was formed to address the pedestrian safety issues around Middleton and other District 73.5 schools. I plan on attending, just as a concerned citizen and I will mention your comment at the meeting. Since the meeting is open to the public, anyone can come and request that other schools also be reviewed (and I would encourage you to do so).
Tonight's meeting is at 7pm at Village Hall, Room A.
