Skokie Schools Named to State Academic Honor Roll
Three Skokie schools were given the honor for sustaining high academic performance for three consecutive years.
Three Skokie schools were given high honors by the Illinois State Board of Education recently and named to the Academic Honor Roll and given the 2012 Academic Excellence Award.
Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School, East Prairie Elementary School and Fairview South Elementary School are among 454 Illinois schools receiving the award. The schools honored all sustained high academic performances over the past three years.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education, schools that receive the Academic Excellence Award must have at least 90 percent of elementary and middle students meeting or exceeding state standards in reading and math for three straight years. At the high school level, at least 85 percent of the students must meet or exceed standards on the Prairie State Achievement Exam given in 2010-2012.

Congrats to East Prairie! And shame on the administrators and Board of District 219 for not having their schools, Niles North and West, on that list. With a budget of $154,000,000 this year we taxpayers expect something for our money but it seems we get less and less every year. The more we get is in higher property tax bills each year. Perhaps it's time for a new board, and then new administrators.
