Thursday Blotter: Safe Containing $15K Stolen

Safe containing $15,000 stolen
A combination safe with more than $15,000 in cash was stolen from a home in the 5000 block of Jarlath Avenue on Nov. 23. According to the report, the suspect(s) used brute force to gain access inside the home. Other items, such as computers in plain sight and jewelry were left untouched.
Alleged theft at Bloomingdales
Carmen B. Vargas, 33, of the 5600 block of Montrose Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft on Nov. 23. According to the report, Vargas was arrested after police saw video evidence of her allegedly taking a laptop from the shipping dock in Bloomingdales in Old Orchard Mall. The computer was valued at around $325.
The report noted that Vargas was hired through a third party for cleaning services. The suspect told police she thought the laptop was garbage and that she would return the item.
Owayne Lee, 25, of the 9200 block of Ewing Avenue, was charged with retail theft on Nov. 23. According to the report, Lee allegedly stole $540 of merchandise from Macy’s in Old Orchard Mall. The items consisted of two pairs of Armani jeans and an Armani t-shirt. Lee’s court date is set for Dec. 7.
A bicycle left in the common area of an apartment in the 5000 block of Louise Avenue was reported stolen on Nov. 23. According to the report, the bicycle was valued at around $150.
A car parked in the 8300 block of Trumbull Avenue was reported stolen on Nov. 24. According to the report, the vehicle was valued at around $1,500.
