Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Free Pizza Event is Over

A Skokie business is giving away free pizza to anyone that walks through their door today. Just mention "Patch" to get your free slice.

This event is now over. You can read our update here.

Today and today only you can get a free jumbo sized pizza slice (it's big) at De Carlucci's in Skokie, 4010 Main St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The business is located just off the intersection of Main Street and Crawford Avenue.

Owner Rick Santos and his brother recently moved to Skokie from Brooklyn, NY to open their first pizza shop. The thin style crust is crispy, even in the center. All you have to do to get your free pizza is walk in and mention "Patch." That's it. No strings attached.

Also, be sure to check out our review of De Carlucci's pizza, here.

Understood that the owner was overwhelmed, but then at least hand out a voucher to come back again. This created such a bad feeling that it will be the first thing I tell my friends. I told people about this and had to call and tell them to go back home. I hope it worked for the owner, but this was really infuriating.

Put yourself in the owner's shoes. He gave out 1,000 pieces of pizza to promote his business. That's around $3,000 or $4,000 worth of free pizza. He obviously didn't expect the promotion to take off like wildfire. Give the guy a break, please.

A pizzeria willing to go the extra mile (literally)!! Willing to deliver to the west side of Morton Grove with great pizza. Tried the free slice and enjoyed it so much we ended up bringing one home!

I completely understand that the owners were overwhelmed, but if demand exceeds capacity and they have to cut the promotion short, they should pass out vouchers for a return visit. I made a special trip as a first time customer and when I saw the sign that the promotion ended early, they lost a customer for life which I know wasn't their intention.

GREAT pizza. We got there late, but they still served us two slices of darn good pizza. We will definitely be ordering more from this place!

Hey all -

We're posting an editorial come tomorrow morning about the day after free pizza day. Be sure to check it out. For those that made it, thank you for stopping by. It was awesome to see the community get together on a nice summer day.

Also, if you missed the event, please email me at georges@patch.com for a possible voucher.

This was a PR disaster. I won't go back. What did the owner think was going to happen after promoting this heavily on Patch for several days? Actually I think for a week. I went there at 1:30 and there was a crudely written sign saying "no more free slices". I still waited at the counter for about 3 min. NEVER saw an employee. There was no one behind the counter. It was supposed to go on until 6pm! And they are out at 1:30 with on one minding the store? Not very responsible.

This was a sad situation. While I was there, certain people just kept taking more and more pizza. One group came back twice and from my count had at least 7 pieces. Shamefully if you ask me. I guess the word "free" brings out the worst in a few people. I truly hope Rick Santos does well in his new location. I really enjoyed the pizza and we really need some decent pizza in the neighborhood! Good Luck we will definitely be back! Alot!
