Tuesday Blotter: Newly Bought iPad Stolen
The following arrest information was supplied by the Skokie Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. At Skokie Patch, we update our blotter daily.
Just bought, just stolen
A woman who purchased an iPad from the Apple Store in Old Orchard Mall reported the electronic device stolen later that day on Sept. 4. The woman drove to Best Buy at 9635 Skokie Blvd. to purchase an accessory, but when she returned to her vehicle the item was gone, the report stated.
Graffiti
The words “Shikn Shack” were spray painted on the side of Brown’s Chicago, 3939 Oakton St., on Aug. 30.
Stolen phone
A smartphone was reported stolen from the Weber Center, 9300 Weber Park Place, on Aug. 30. The phone was valued at around $200, the report said.
Stolen bike
A bike valued at around $200 was reported stolen from the 8300 block of Christiana Avenue on Aug. 30.
Theft from auto
A car parked outside Old Orchard Mall was reported burglarized on Sept. 5. According to the report, a blunt object was used to smash out the driver’s side window. An iPod valued at $300 was removed from the vehicle, the report stated.
Tools stolen
A set of tools was reported stolen from a basement in the 4800 block of Crain Avenue on Sept. 5.
Stolen laptop
A woman alleged that her friend stole her laptop from the backseat of her car on Sept. 5. No arrests were made.

When you read the Patch crime report it is hard not to wonder what the crime trends and actual numbers are. It would be interesting to see by category. It would also be extremely helpful to understand how many of the crimes in Skokie are committed by residents and how many by non residents. Also what are the ages of those committing the crimes? This conversation might certainly stimulate some discussion. Although probably not as much discussion as the arrested village trustee.

If someone is charged, we always print their name, age and residence along with the charge for our blotter. As for putting everything in perspective, we'll have to wait for SPD's annual crime report, which usually comes out in February. Thanks for the link. I went to the page and read for a long time and took a good look at what the Skokie police do for us. I am impressed. I think the force deserves more commendation and publicity about the great job they are doing. I was considering leaving Skokie because of the crime and increased graffiti, etc.
But, after reading the report I think the department has things going the right way and if we let them do their job, we can expect to see the trends continue.
I do think some of kind "Honor the Officers" would be a good program for the Patch.
