Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Nominees for Athlete of the Week: Maine South's Jacqui Grant, New Trier's M.J. Pritchard, Evanston's Terrell Farmby, Deerfield's Christine Stitcher and Niles North's Karol Mlynarski

and North Shore Country Day's Austin Curren came out on top, winning Athlete of the Week.

The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 6 - Feb. 12:

Christine Stitcher, junior, girls gymnastics, Deerfield – Stitcher qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. The Deerfield junior recorded a 36.825 in the all-around and also qualified in floor and uneven bars at the Niles North Sectional. The state meet will be held next week at Palatine High School.

M.J. Pritchard, junior, wrestling, New Trier – Pritchard qualified for the wrestling state championships by taking third place in the 113-pound division of the Class 3A Barrington Sectional. Pritchard defeated Highland Park’s Nate Kessler 6-5 in the consolation match to secure his trip to state.

Karol Mlynarski, junior, boys swimming, Niles North – Mlynarski had a record-setting day at the CSL North conference swim meet at Deerfield. The Niles North junior set conference and pool records in both the 100-yard freestyle (46.92) and the 200 freestyle, helping the Vikings to their second consecutive conference championship.

Terrell Farmby, senior, boys basketball, Evanston – Farmby had 14 points to lead Evanston to a 55-52 overtime victory over New Trier at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The win gave the Wildkits a split with New Trier in the regular season and Evanston was given the No. 5 seed in the Class 4A Glenview Sectional.

Jacqui Grant, junior, girls basketball, Maine South – Grant scored the 1,000th point of her high-school career in the Hawks’ 76-22 win over Waukegan last week. The junior center was a fixture on last year’s team that took third place in the Class 4A state tournament.
