On Monday, March 11, there was an announcment on the Skokie Patch about several forums to be held for the Lincolnwood candidates running for election on April 9, 2013.
Brian Novak, Independent Candidate for Skokie Trustee, believes in open forums and has either organized or participated in several public forums for elections or public policy issues.
The Novak for Skokie Trustee campaign in collaboration with Independent Voters of Illinois – Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) has been trying to arrange a forum where all 9 of the candidates for Skokie Trustee could participate. Unfortunately, neither the Novak for Skokie Trustee campaign nor the probable moderator, IVI-IPO, has been successful in being able to reach the Skokie Caucus Party in order to schedule a date.
It is our belief that a forum where all of the candidates are present would be beneficial to the voters in the community.
What do you think? Would you be for an open forum between all nine trustee candidates?

Why would the trustees not want to debate? This needs to happen so people can be informed.

At the very least it would give the voters the impression that their voices/concerns would be heard. It may also emphasize the importance of making an informed decision and actually going out to vote. The Independent Candidates are out there talking to the voters. I would think the Caucus Party would want to do this.

This is very troubling to me. I cannot simply place an x on a ballot without knowing whom I'm voting for and what their positions are. I applaud Mr Novak for proposing a forum where the Skokie Electorate can have the opportunity to make an informed decision. I would think that the Caucus Party would welcome the opportunity to display their accomplishments to date and to showcase their future plans for Skokie. I for one do not like or trust a lack of transparency, and if I cannot hear where all the candidates stand, then I will simply vote for the candidate that has proposed transparency.

I also believe in transparency and would welcome an open forum with all the candidates. I would hope the caucus party would welcome this opportunity to present their position. This open forum would level the playing field because we all know the caucus party has lots of money in its coffers and has not had to deal with any opposition for quite a while.

I agree with Mark.
If they (caucus party) are not willing to participate in a forum, I will also vote for the new, independent candidates that have proposed transparency.
Actually, I will vote for non-caucus party candidates anyways, time for a change!

The Caucus Party party is betting on the status quo voters to back them as usual. This party needs to be tossed and fresh minds put in. Im tired of the "same ole" do nothing attitude. skokie is where its at because of the caucus party and I think we can all agree Skokie is not what it used to be...
