By Brian Novak
I am running as an Independent for Skokie trustee in the April 9, 2013, election. Skokie is the community where my wife, Cyndy, and I chose to raise our young family. In the eight years we have lived here, I have given much time to the community, along with my sense of purpose and determination to make life better for others.
Through my community activities I have come to know many fellow residents and gained insight into issues that are important to our community. I have served as an elected member of the District 73.5 School Board and president of the Niles Township District for Special Education as well as a member of the Village of Skokie Consumer Affairs Commission.
As Village trustee I will work to give the people of our community a voice in Village Hall and a fresh approach to leading the Village through the 21st century.
As trustee, I will focus on the following issues:
- I will work with the Village Board and staff to evaluate Village fees and ensure that existing revenue streams are managed efficiently.
- I will work to ensure that Skokie police and fire personnel receive fair contracts as well as the tools they need to keep our community safe, including budgetary resources for increased staffing.
- I will examine the relationship between the Skokie school districts and the Village in order to ensure that our kids are safe via a thorough review of speed limits, sidewalk capacities and interior safety mechanisms.
- I will support the Skokie business community by working to remove existing impediments for growth and development and by finding creative, new ways to keep existing businesses in Skokie and to attract new businesses here.
This is my roadmap for Skokie to rededicate itself to its motto of “Village of Vision.” In the coming weeks, I will go into further detail on these issues. In the meantime, please follow the news of my campaign and let me hear your ideas at www.novakforskokie.com. And don't forget to vote on April 9th.
