Cubby's a real homerun of a cat. This handsome white cat with black markings says, "I'm a real sweetie pie and all the C.A.R.E. volunteers love me. I'll roll over on my back when you pick me up and when you give me a hug. I purr and purr all day long, but also love to play. My favorite toy is the cat charmer snake and I'll hunt and pounce! Please come meet to see how adorable and sweet I am." Cubby's Stats: Cubby is FeLV+ Domestic Shorthair, 1 - 3 years old, Black and White, Neutered male. ASPCA Feline-ality™ Assessment rating:  Orange / Personal Assistant Due to his FeLV+ status, Cubby …
By Katie Bertoglio-Harris There are so many things to say about Ranger, and they are all great!  Ranger is in a foster home, so he knows the ins and outs of home living.  He is extremely polite and he knows basic commands and some really cute tricks, too!  Ranger travels beautifully in the car, walks nicely on a leash, does not need to be crated, and loves kids, cats and most dogs.  Initially he is a bit reserved, but he relaxes quickly and clearly enjoys attention and love! Ranger is a nice size, weighing in at around 50 pounds.  His tricoloring is stunningly handsome!  He has such a …
Jersey is a beautiful Torbie (Tortoiseshell Tabby) lady with soft, fluffy fur. Jersey says, "I'm full of spunk and sass, but also have a sweet side. I like to grumble, but it's all talk and catitude. I was found in a carrier outside of Evanston North Shore Hospital. I like to be with people and will be a great companion with lots of purrsonality to share. I'm a princess and I'll let you share my throne if you ask nicely (and give me cheeky rubs)." Jersey's Stats: Domestic Longhair, 2 - 5 years old, Torbie, Spayed female ASPCA Feline-ality™ Assessment rating:  Orange / Sidekick Jersey would do…
I’m sweet, kind and sensitive—but also sometimes a little clueless about my own strength and size. My puppy-like attitude will make you laugh while you watch me learn and mature. I can be very attentive one minute, then off investigating some sound or smell the next. I love to play and need lots of toys or tennis balls. Sometimes other dogs confuse me when they want to play, so I'll need socialization and positive experiences in that department. At the end of a long day, I look forward to downtime in a comfy dog bed. If you are a patient person who’s looking for a ‘Ted’-dy bear of a dog, …
C.A.R.E. dog Regis arrived back at the shelter when his beloved owners had to move to a smaller place and could not take him along. Regis is an easy-going guy who enjoys walks and hanging out with people. Friendly and not overly demanding, he’d be happy with basic care and attention, a comfy bed and some toys. (Oh—a towel under his water bowl would be good idea since he's a bit of a messy drinker!) Regis is a big fellow and can be strong on leash at times but he does already know some basic obedience commands such as Sit, Down and Give Paw. Regis says: "Once I’m home (with you!) and I …
Hi! My name's Gregg! I’m a social, friendly, high energy guy who loves attention and wants action--preferably now. I enjoy meeting people and walk fairly well on leash, but can get jumpy at times. Since my life started off without a lot of positive direction, I sometimes get a little goofy with misdirected energy. I’m looking forward to attending obedience training with you to show you how smart and agreeable I can be. I'm not very barky and I quiet down easily on my own. Gregg's Stats: Lab/Viszla Mix, 1 - 1.5 years old, Neutered male ASPCA Canine-ality™ Assessment rating: Green / Life of the…
Tortie lovers, gather 'round and meet C.A.R.E. supertortie Hazel. This adorable girl with a checkerboard face would love to come home with you. Like many tortoiseshell cats, Hazel enjoys spending time with people and likes to be petted. Hazel says, "My favorite activities are looking out the window and sleeping on your bed. Cat beds are for cats, 'real' beds are for princesses, like me! I had a litter of kittens and they have all been adopted, so now I'm ready to go to my forever home and become the center of attention." Hazel's Stats: Domestic Shorthair, 1.5 years old, Tortoiseshell, Spayed …
"T-I-double 'guh'-errrrr, that spells Tigger!" And indeed, this chatty, loving, affectionate orange tabby currently staying at C.A.R.E. will bounce right into your heart. Tigger likes to climb under your pant leg to nuzzle against your leg! And even though he's not a youngster, Tigger love to play and will pounce for feather wands and fuzzy mice. Like his namesake, Tigger's an inquisitive fellow. He likes to investigate and has been known to try to sneak out the door, so you'll need to be careful to keep him safe. Tigger came to the shelter when his elderly owner could no longer care for him…
Reed is a dog among dogs, one who will steal your heart in an instant. He's a gentle, sweet and affectionate boy with a kind heart. "I'm polite and patient, and never rude," Reed would say if he could talk. "I'm fairly quiet, since I prefer to listen to all that is going on so I can better learn and understand. I'm very adaptable and agreeable, too. Beside human company, my favorite things are treats. I'll do almost anything for a treat, which makes me highly trainable and one who enjoys training. If you're looking for a very handsome guy with a positive attitude to complete your life, I’m …
I’m an outgoing and friendly dog who craves your attention and affection. I know I’ll make you laugh and smile often, since I’m silly and goofy throughout the day. My joyful spirit is contagious and I apply it to all my endeavors. Be it training, playing, loving, investigating or going for walks – I guess “Gusto” could be my middle name! But I have a quiet side, too. I love snuggling, chew toys, and long cozy snoozes. Yep, I have it all—wiggly, sensitive, not too big, exuberant, a sense of humor, inquisitive, joyful, smart, playful and loving. What more could you ask for? Penny's Stats: Boxer…
Lightning arrived at C.A.R.E. when one of the children in his family developed allergies. But their loss can be your gain! Here's what this extraordinary gray tabby with green-gold eyes has to say for himself: "I'm a social fellow who loves spending time with people. Wherever you are, I'll be there too. I'm nonchalant and I enjoy being petted even more than I enjoy toys. I especially love it when you stroke my cheekbones. I have a secret desire to be a hairdresser and I like to play with your hair and put my paws on your head. Come to C.A.R.E. to meet me and give me a second chance!" …
Chuckles is a fine example of the Beagle tribe—curious, independent and persistent. Chuckles may be an Elder Beagle, but he's still incredibly active, agile and ready for daily walks. "That way I can put my nose to work and exercise my heart and legs, too," Chuckles says (or would say if he could talk). Since he's such a sociable dog, Chuckles really likes having a person around to keep him company. "Everyone who meets me says I’m friendly and affectionate, and ready to make you laugh with my bubbly personality," Chuckles says. "If you’re looking for a buddy with an optimistic attitude and a …
Hi! My name is Harvest. I was found hanging out in the Home Depot store because I'm a major home improvement (!).  Bring me home and I'll definitely improve it for you. I'm very sweet and enjoy sticking my nose in everything people do, so I'm the perfect DIY assistant. I have a unique sassy meow that is perfect for my supervisor role. My favorite toys are mice and balls. I also like to sit on chairs like a princess, so maybe our first project can be a throne. Harvest's Stats: Domestic Shorthair, 2 years old, White with Brown Tabby, Spayed female. ASPCA Feline-ality™ Assessment rating:  Orange…
Snowy white Tapioca has a sad story, but with a soon-to-be-happy ending. Tapioca ended up at C.A.R.E. after being thrown from a car in his carrier--despite being, say C.A.R.E. volunteers, "the nicest, sweetest cat around." "I shook it all off and have opened my heart to the nice volunteers at C.A.R.E.," says Tapioca. "I get lots of compliments on my one blue eye and one amber eye. I'm lovable and like being petted and playing with all kinds of toys! Come to the shelter to meet me and to give me a chance at a great life with a new family." Tapioca's Stats: Domestic Shorthair, 1 to 2 years old…
Hi! My name is Adelle. People tell me I have the most adorable face. I'm a curvy girl who is very happy and calm. I love investigating new places and being held and loved. I enjoy playing with wand toys, but you need to place them near me for me to lazily swat. I believe in putting out the minimum effort for exercise! (Although I hope you'll help me lose some weight.) I hope you'll come soon to meet me at C.A.R.E., and maybe bring me home with you. I'll purr purr purr my gratitude and happiness. Adelle's Stats: Domestic Shorthair, 5 years old, Tortoiseshell/Calico mix, Spayed female. ASPCA …
Some cats are mooches for attention. Other cats, like C.A.R.E. cat Angie, prefer to call the shots. Angie, a striking, "Rubenesque" tortie/calico mix, has been living at C.A.R.E. for more than a year now. She doesn't seem to be a fan of other cats, but she appears to be okay with dogs who are polite to her. But Angie loves people. If you sit down, Angie will make a beeline for your lap and some cuddles.  That said, Angie is a cat who expects respect. She can be quite opinionated and talkative, as C.A.R.E. volunteers have noted. If you do something that she doesn't appreciate (like trying to …
Of all the high-jumping cats at C.A.R.E., tuxedo kitten Jupiter is the one that shelter volunteers are convinced has springs in his little legs. Jupiter loves to play and chase and play some more. Here's what Jupiter has to say for himself (if he could talk!): "I have a little black heart on my nose and BIG FEET. They say I may end up being a big kitty when I'm fully grown, so I'm eating a lot to get big and strong. I do get a little timid in new situations until I've figured everything out, then once I get comfortable, I'll take over! I love playing and interactive toys are my favorite. I'll…
When C.A.R.E. pair Bebe & Paka, kitten siblings extraordinaire, were brought to Pet Supplies Plus in Morton Grove by a C.A.R.E. volunteer for an outreach event last week, nearly everyone who passed by the table stopped to exclaim at the cats' beauty and poise. Bebe & Paka are friendly, well-rounded, outgoing kitties who will add fun and beauty to your life. Paka, the lynx-point Siamese mix, loves to hunt toys, ambush and live up to her beautiful tiger markings. Bebe, the tortoiseshell, is  more laid back, but also loves to pounce and have fun. "We are extremely beautiful - outside and in! …
Every home needs a tabby, and what better candidate than C.A.R.E. cat Pat. This older girl must have lived with someone before she landed at the shelter. C.A.R.E. volunteers describe her as "a sweet lap cat who loves people." Pat is chatty, and equally skilled at cuddling and purring. In fact, she'd rather hang out with you than play with toys. Do you harbor secret couch potato ambitions? Then you'd get along famously with the fabulous tabby Pat. Come meet Pat at the shelter, then take her home where you can curl up together. Pat's Stats: Domestic Shorthair, 10 - 12 years old, Tortoiseshell/…
Tommy, Mandy & Mary are truly animal orphans. The trio lived with a wonderful gentleman for many years, who loved them dearly. When their "Dad" passed away, the three cats went temporarily to stay with a relative who was unable to keep them long term. These three friends have lived together their whole lives. They are very scared and shy and want to stay together because "we're all we've got." C.A.R.E.'s cat volunteers add that "the three will need a lot of love and patience, and will hide (they hid in the relative’s duct work in the ceiling and had to be trapped to get them into the shelter…
