DESCRIPTION:You spend the school year writing for other people: papers an
d reports for your teachers\, essays for your college applications\, a
rticles for your school newspaper. With so much on your plate\, it&rsquo
\;s hard to find time to write for yourself.\nWednesday afternoons are
for you!\nEach week we&rsquo\;ll focus on a different aspect of creative
  writing: poetry\, language\, plot\, character\, dialogue\, and other a
spects of storycraft. Whether you like to write poetry\, fiction\, pers
 onal essay\, journals\, or all of the above\, there&rsquo\;s a place fo
r you here!\nWrite without worrying about grades or deadlines\, create n
ew work and polish existing pages\, and work closely with a professiona
l writer who will help to guide your process and answer any questions y
ou have about writing\, publishing\, living the writing life\, and more
.\nBest of all\, you&rsquo\;ll get to meet other teenage writers like yo
urself who are serious and excited about their stories!\nThis class has
two components:\n&bull\; Writing: Writing prompts to spark your imaginat
ion\, help you break through blocks\, and learn to write past your &ldqu
 o\;internal editor.&rdquo\;\n&bull\; Workshopping: We&rsquo\;ll share ou
r work and give each other feedback on what&rsquo\;s working well and w
hat opportunities we can find in each piece (whether it&rsquo\;s fictio
n\, non-fiction\, or poetry). We&rsquo\;ll talk about where we can exte
nd scenes and dialogue to push the narrative\, how word choice can affe
ct the piece as a whole\, how to spice up language and how to find&mdas
h\;and trust&mdash\;your original voice.\nAge Groups and Who Should Atte
nd We invite all young writers in grades 6 through 9 to participate. The
small size of our classes and individual attention from the instructor
means each student will be challenged with customized prompts and rec
 eive appropriate feedback.
