  • Ever met an astronaut? How about a commander of the International Space Station?Colonel Chris Hadfield is coming to Barnes & Noble Wednesday to talk about life in space, and sign copies of his book, An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth.
  • Don't let winter's cold run up your heating bill this year. A "Home Weatherization" workshop lets you get hands-on practice at weather-stripping, caulking, etc., and the presenter will talk about grants you can get for bigger energy-efficiency projects. At Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie, Wednesday at 7 p.m. Register. 
  • Skokie police officers recently raised $1,591 for Special Olympics Illinois by waiting on tables at Red Robin restaurant, 7500 Carpenter Road, Skokie. They donated 100 percent of their tips. Officers Rannochio, Krecisz, Smaller, Sergeant Wojdyla and Commander Shiel served as guest waiters at the restaurant.  The money supports sports training and competition for children and adults with disabilities.
