COVENANT RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES AWARDS EIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS TO EMPLOYEES AND DEPENDENTS

In an effort to support employees and their dependents in their personal and professional development, Covenant Retirement Communities, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit senior services providers, awarded eight scholarships totaling $15,000.

Five of CRC’s employees’ dependents received a post-high school college scholarship and three of CRC’s employees received the Paul V. Peterson Scholarship. The Paul V. Peterson Scholarship, named for a former president of CRC, is awarded to employees at Covenant Retirement Communities who are enrolled in a class or program that supports and is beneficial to his/her employment with CRC, an individual campus and/or its residents.

“By sponsoring scholarships for employees and their dependents, we are helping each individual grow,” says Deborah Tate, Covenant Retirement Communities vice president of human resources. “Covenant Retirement Communities is dedicated to individual development and fulfillment. The scholarships underscore that key commitment.”

At Windsor Park, Carol Stream, Ill., Christine Thomas received a $2,500 scholarship to study pre-medicine at Loyola University, Chicago, and Vanessa Cohn received a $1,275 scholarship to study elementary education. Christine’s mother, Sally, and Vanessa’s mother, Juanita, are both certified nursing assistants at Windsor Park.

At Covenant Village of Northbrook, Northbrook, Ill., Eric Tint received a $2,500 scholarship to study pre-medicine at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Eric’s mother, Lillian Thwe, is a restorative certified nursing assistant at Covenant Village of Northbrook.

At Covenant Shores, Mercer Island, Wash., Alex Tan received a $2,500 scholarship to study computer science and mathematics at the University of Washington, Seattle. His mother, Donna, is a housekeeper at Covenant Shores.

At Covenant Village of Florida, Plantation, Fla., Kari Cook was awarded a $1,225 scholarship to study business marketing at Baylor University, Waco, Texas. Kari’s mother, Karen, is church relations coordinator and her father, Rocky, is campus chaplain at Covenant Village of Florida.

At CRC’s central office, Skokie, Ill., Anita Figueroa, an applications support analyst, was awarded a $2,000 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in business management from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago.

At The Samarkand, Santa Barbara, Calif., Hugo Valencia, human resources assistant, was awarded a $2,000 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship. He is working towards a certificate in human resources management at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

At Covenant Village of Colorado, Westminster, Colo., Mykel Randall, staffing coordinator, was awarded a $1,000 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship. She is studying at Front Range Community College, Westminster, to become a licensed vocational nurse.

A selection committee reviewed 55 applications from its communities nationwide. The dependent scholarship award recipients were selected based on educational and career pursuits consistent with CRC values; an essay demonstrating a defined educational/career goal; and the student’s involvement in extra-curricular activities. The Paul V. Peterson Scholarship award recipients were selected based on educational and career pursuits consistent with CRC values; an essay demonstrating a defined educational/career goal; and the employee's good standing with CRC or an individual campus for at least one year.
