New Parking Payment System Planned for Skokie Swift Commuters

Effective May 1, 2014, to simplify the payment process for commuters at the Dempster-Skokie CTA Station, new digital payment terminals will be installed to replace the current token payment system for parking. The new payment terminals will be located inside the train station and will accept coins, paper bills and credit/debit card payments. The existing token dispenser and slot boxes will be removed on April 30 and tokens will thereafter no longer be accepted for payment.

Commuters who have purchased parking tokens are encouraged to use them before April 30. The daily rates will remain the same. Commuters will still need to remember the space number where they park, enter that space number into one of the new payment terminals, insert payment and take a receipt. If a receipt is not printed, the transaction did not process. In addition, a mobile application from Passport Parking for making payments by phone will be made available.

While payment receipts should be kept as proof of payment, they will not be needed to be displayed in vehicles. The new terminals will not make change and will not provide refunds.  Village staff and representatives of the equipment vendor will be at the Skokie Swift train station on the mornings of May 1 and May 2 to assist commuters with this transition and answer any questions.

Additional details and payment instructions will be made available on the Village’s website, www.skokie.org, in advance of the system change. For more information, contact Peter Vadopalas, Assistant to the Village Manager at 847/933-8258.
