NorthShore University HealthSystem Kellogg Cancer Center Honors the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation for Improving Lives of Mothers with Breast Cancer

On Friday, February 14, NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) Evanston Hospital Kellogg Cancer Center marked five years of the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of mothers with breast cancer. Thanks to substantial support from the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation, NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center has received a total of $100,000 to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to mothers who struggle to keep up with daily tasks and responsibilities while undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

“We feel honored to be the beneficiary of the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation’s outstanding philanthropy and to collaborate with them in helping to alleviate some of the challenges our patients and their families experience during the difficult time that follows a diagnosis of breast cancer,” stated Tyler Bauer, Assistant Vice President of NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center. “This type of compassionate and truly personalized care could not be provided without the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation’s partnership, passionate dedication and unwavering determination.”

About the Karen Dove Cabral Foundation

The Karen Dove Cabral Foundation was founded in 2008 by the family and friends of Karen Dove Cabral, who passed away in 2007 after six years of living with breast cancer.

As a NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center patient, Karen expressed empathy and concern for the many young mothers with breast cancer who could not afford the critical therapies and vital services their insurance would not cover. This lack of access often seriously compromises a breast cancer patient’s basic ability to function and a family’s quality of life.

The Karen Dove Cabral Foundation is the sole organization in this area dedicated to assisting young mothers with breast cancer who are struggling with financial limitations. Through the Foundation’s partnership with Kellogg Cancer Center, their philanthropy helps these patients and their families by providing direct financial assistance with non-covered medical expenses, child care fees, housekeeping, and transportation and lodging while a patient is undergoing treatment.
