Former Skokie Cantor Celebrates 100th Birthday

David Brandhandler spent half of his life as a professional cantor, singing the Jewish prayers until he retired a few years ago at the age of 91. The Skokie resident recently celebrated his 100 birthday, CBS Chicago reported.

Brandhandler has prepared generations of students for their bar and bat mitzvahs and also composed hundreds of pieces of music, many of which are still sung by other cantors, but says he now sings just for himself and his wife of nearly 67 years, Goldie, the website reported.
