Get Out: Rock, Run and Reel This Weekend

Don't-miss events include Rock The Green, Relay For Life and the Youth Film Festival.

When/Where: 6-9 p.m., Friday; Why Go: Cheer on Northbrook’s most talented young performers as they play their hearts out in a battle for prizes and placement in the statewide contest. This year’s lineup includes Crosswalk, 42, The Beijings, The Axidents, Seagrass and Friday & Forever.

When/Where: 7-9:45 p.m., Friday; Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Meadowhill Park
Why Go: Want to feel the rush of wind in your hair and the thrill of speed? Hop on a stock bike and compete in the first night of bicycle racing at the velodrome. Children race from 7-8 p.m., adults from 8:20-9:45 p.m. Call the weather hotline at 847-291-2985 for updates in case of rain.

When/Where: 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; Village Green in Winnetka
Why Go: Got  children who are out of school and bored? Now in its 65th year, the Children’s Fair offers rides, games, craft booths and more. Stop by the Patch booth, too, we'd love to say hi!

When/Where: 6 and 7:30 p.m., Friday; 7:30 p.m., Saturday; Why Go: Hear the sweet sounds of Bach, Brahms, Mozart and other composers played by some of the area’s best musicians. Violinist Vadim Gluzman and pianist Angela Yoffe host the inaugural chamber music series at Village Presbyterian Church, with concerts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The sessions will be followed by a lecture and demonstration on Stradivarius violins at 6 p.m. Saturday.

When/Where: 8 a.m. race, 3–10 p.m. block party, Saturday; Why Go: Get a dry-fit shirt, goody bag and admission to the block party (not to mention a good workout) if you race the 5K or fun run at 8 a.m. Come back at 3 p.m. for live music by and other bands as well as food. Other activities include inflatables face painting and games for children.
Pricing: $15 fun run, $30 5k; proceeds benefit and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook.

Relay For Life
When/Where: 6 p.m., Saturday; Why Go: Show your support for those affected by cancer at this 12-hour walkathon to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Pricing: Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society

When/Where: 7 p.m., Monday; Why Go: Check out features and documentaries created by young local filmmakers. The evening includes a question-and-answer session and awards ceremony.
