Police Issue Statement Regarding Shooting in Skokie

Some new details have come in regarding the shooting that occurred outside Old Orchard Mall on Friday, May 17.

Police have released new information regarding a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard on May 17 around 9:45 p.m.

Patch has already reported that a male subject was shot in the abdomen and transported to an area hospital. Now, it has been confirmed that the victim was a juvenile, or under the age of 18. The teen is in stable condition.

"This was not a random act," Skokie Deputy Chief Mike Pechter told Patch.

At the time of the shooting, a carnival was operating on the west end of Old Orchard Mall, or just across the street from Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave. It is not clear, at this time, if the offender or victim attended the event. However, the carnival was shutdown moments after the shooting, police said.

Because the incident is under investigation, police are not releasing further information. Skokie Patch has also followed up on several leads, but has not learned anything substantial.

Authorities are also asking that anyone with information to contact police at 847-982-5900. Callers can remain anonymous.
