Some storms may produce strong winds and hail.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Cook County.

The watch extends until 9 p.m. tonight.

The NWS reports that combining temperatures, which have risen near or above 90 degrees in the area, and dewpoints that are 70, the heat index will be between 100 and 105 degrees this afternoon as temperatures continue to rise.

This hot and humid weather will meet a cold front and sets the stage for thunderstorms for mid to late afternoon into the evening. Some storms may produce strong winds and hail.

There may also be cloud to ground lightning amidst the downpour.
