Skokie Man Police Say Tried to Sexually Assault Senior Gets $100K Bail

A 36-year-old Skokie man is being held on a $100,000 bail bond after being accused of breaking into a 72-year-old woman’s Belmont Avenue apartment in Chicago and trying to sexually assault her.

Malik Dervisevic, 36, is the property manager of the apartment building in Chicago's Lake View neighborhood where the woman lives. He is being charged with aggravated battery to a senior citizen, burglary and aggravated criminal sexual abuse—all felonies—police said.

Dervisevic, of the 7600 block of Long in Skokie, was arrested on June 7 on the 500 block of West Belmont Avenue where he works as a building manager, the Chicago Tribune notes. A judge set his bail in court Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors said the victim left for the store in East Lake View, locking both of her apartment doors, CBS Chicago reports. When she returned home, only one of the locks was still locked and Dervisevic was found trying to hide.

That’s when police say he told her, “You can make this easy,” and ordered her to lay on the bed as he unzipped his pants and exposed himself, the Tribune writes. Instead the victim picked up her cell phone, the two began struggling and she fractured her wrist.

Police say Dervisevic then fled. 

The victim said she was afraid to call police, but when she sought medical attention for her wrist, police were called, according to NBC Chicago.

Dervisevic was arrested at the office in Lake View and was charged Friday morning.
