Help Prepare Rosh Hashanah Food Packages for Needy Families

Volunteers with relief organization Maot Chitam are working this week to prepare Rosh Hashanah food packages for needy Jewish families at a nearby Niles warehouse, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. Rosh Hashanah falls on Sept. 4 this year, which is earlier than in the past, because of the upcoming Jewish leap year.

Many of the organization’s usual volunteers still are on vacation, or busy with their kids during the summer, and now organizers are faced with the challenge of getting the packages together for the needy families in time for the holiday.  They are starting the three-step process of preparing the packages this week. And part of that process is taking place at the warehouse at 5990 W. Touhy Ave. For more information, contact the volunteer coordinator by emailing volunteer@maotchitim.org.
