Pictures of People Waiting in Line for iPad 3

The iPad 3 is here, making the iPad 2 completely obsolete and not worth using anymore. Owners of such prehistoric products are encouraged to donate them to recycling centers across America. (We joke)

The newest generation of iPad went on sale across the country Friday morning. In Skokie, Ill., a crowd of around 60, some having arrived as early as 4:00 a.m., waited eagerly to get their hands on the new device.

Prices of the new device range from $499 on the low end to as high as $849. Upgrades in the newest generation of tablet computer from Apple include a higher resolution screen, a faster processor, a 4G connection, and a dictation feature where the device types as you speak.

Releases of new products by Apple are highly anticipated events for their loyal customers. An Apple store employee said Friday the crowd at Old Orchard was larger than that awaiting the newest version of iPhone, the iPhone 4s, but not as large as the iPad 2 last year.

Customers waiting in line traveled from near and far to be one of the first with the device. A couple from Beijing waiting Friday morning at Old Orchard had the intention of bringing several back to China for friends unable to get their hands on them there.

First in line at the Old Orchard Apple store Friday Scott Caspall of Evanston, who arrived at 4:20am to get his wife the new tablet computer for her birthday. "I love Apple products but I wouldn't be in line if it wasn't her birthday," said Caspall.
