NorthShore Laying Off 130 Employees

NorthShore is trimming 1 percent of its staff in layoffs slated to begin this week.

NorthShore University HealthSystem is laying off about 130 employees to cut costs, Crain's Chicago Business reports. The layoffs amount to 1 percent of the Evanston-based hospital's workforce, the publication reports.

NorthShore operates Skokie Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Evanston Hospital and Highland Park Hospital.

The layoffs will start this week, says Crain's. They follow a trend of layoffs at hospitals across the nation, which are trying to cut costs in anticipation of revenue declines because of Obama's health care law, the publication reports. NorthShore's layoffs follow  early retirement offers made to about 300 employees two months ago.
