Old Orchard Adds 'Cube', Play Area

Two additions to Westfield Shoppingtown Old Orchard are in the works.

One is "The Cube," a 34 by 34 foot construction of all glass, which will function as a place to hold events and performances all year round. Mall operators said in a statment that the Cube draws inspiration from The Glass House, which is also an all-glass structure by designer Philip Johnson, located in Connecticut. The Cube is expected to open in mid-June.

If you remember Old Orchard's former children's play area, with a large serpent children could run along, take note that the new Play Space will also have a serpent, as well as structures in the shapes of a lady bug and bumble bee. It will be larger than the old play area, however, and have features children can climb on. Kids from toddler age to 9 will be able to enjoy it.  It will also contain a maze, as well as bench-style seating. The entrance will be on the west end, away from the parking lot.
