Skokie To Get Meijer and Floor & Decor Stores

Both of them are slated for the east end of Oakton Street.

Skokie is landing two large retail businesses, Village Manager Al Rigoni announced Tuesday, according to the Skokie Review: Meijer, a big-box store which usually carries a full-service grocery and a selection of clothing, household goods and other merchandise, as well as Floor & Decor, a flooring merchant.

Both businesses are targeted for the east end of Oakton Street, and are expected to bring property tax revenue to School District 73.5, which had been missing out on the revenue generated by other recent developments in the village.

There are 19 Meijer stores in the Chicagoland area within 50 miles of Skokie, and they vary in size. The store at the northwest end of Niles, bordering Des Plaines, carries mainly groceries, while the Rolling Meadows store also carries clothing, shoes, housewares, small appliances, electronics, furniture and other items.

Floor & Decor, which sells tile, hardwood and stone flooring, has three Illinois stores so far, in Arlington Heights, Aurora and Lombard. It also has locations in 11 other states.

The Niles Meijer store has often hosted cooking demonstrations with team members of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Blackhawks as celebrity chefs.
