What Mariano's Will Look Like In Skokie

Each Mariano's Fresh Market store is different, said a representative from its parent corporation at a Skokie Village Board meeting Monday.

The plans for Skokie's store, which John McLinden, of developer Centrum Properties shows at the meeting, call for a large rotunda and dome at the customer entrance (see the photo of the illustration).

The rotunda will be at the north of the site, so it does not front on Touhy Avenue, which is to the south of the site.

While the Skokie village board unanimously approved the measures brought to it Monday, Peter Peyer, director of community development for the village, said more must be done before Mariano's can break ground.

The village board will have to approve an ordinance for each of the measures they approved last night, plus five additional ones.

The developer and Mariano's will need to provide more information, such as a floor plan for the store and more specific plans for the outdoor dining and outdoor sales areas. Those latter two will have to be reviewed by the village's Appearance Commission.

This is all part of the regular public hearing process," Peyer wrote in an email, "and I do not anticipate any issues based on the high professional quality of the developer and consultants."
