Over the summer, a team of enthusiastic Michael Silver & Company CPAs volunteers turned out to show their support for Lincoln Junior High School’s (Skokie) Y.O.U. (Youth Organizations Umbrella) program. The first event, a Welcome to the Real World! (WTTRW) simulation, was held July 15. With a focus on gaining real world experiences related to career exploration and financial decision-making, WTTRW students became young adults for the afternoon, immersed in choosing a career and strategizing the requirements of day to day budgeting and living.

Michael Silver & Company CPA volunteers fulfilled roles as landlords, bankers, and car dealers. The students visited “career” stations in an effort to learn how to make financial decisions in today’s economic climate. Brian Williams, Y.O.U. Spartans Program Director, noted, “Thank you to the volunteers for sharing your skills and talents.”
On August 9, another Michael Silver & Company CPAs team participated in a fun-filled celebratory Field Day. The students, staff, and volunteers participated in a variety of outdoor and indoor activities, including team sports, an ice cream social, and signing themed T-Shirts. Two Tax Staff members coordinated both events. Kamie Corfias commented, “We all had a lot of fun volunteering at WTTRW, and the youths really enjoyed our company.” Joe Casey added, “Thanks to Michael Silver & Company CPAs for providing us with an outlet to better serve the community. Based on the sincere gratitude of those within the program, it was clear that we made a difference. Hopefully our involvement with Lincoln Junior High continues to grow!”
