Can We Stop Bullying in Our Schools and Communities?

This blog is about bringing awareness regarding bullying in our schools, homes and the society at large.

My name is Corina Andronache and I recently became involved in helping the cause of bringing awareness in our communites regarding the damage created by bullying in our schools and homes. Marion Rosenberg, the founder of Universal Dream and Peace, a long time resident of Skokie, has been passionate about this issue for a long time.

I happened to meet Marion not so long ago and decided to join forces in the fight against bullying as well as teaching others about the small things we can all do to create a big impact through the way we use words.

As a recipient of bullying, I can speak from my own experience about the damage done and the work one has to do inside in order to regain self-confidence and self-esteem.

Attached is a flyer for the upcoming event taking place in Skokie on April 30th at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Ezra Habonim Niles Township Jewish Congregation, 4500 Dempster St.

Also, below is the invitation Marion writes with hope of speaking to people's hearts to join our effort to end bullying and stop the pain and personal damage it creates.

My Road to Understanding

I started to work for world peace over 6 years ago. I am almost 78 now. I have learned much in watching others and through going into to my own life and the errors I had made.

As Elmer Gump said life is like a Box of Chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

When I was in my sixties I learned that yelling at my kids constantly was and is a form of abuse. I began to tell my children how sorry I was. The healing began and I believe is still going on.

There was and is an expression “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” This is untrue for many people. You may heal broken bones in weeks, but words may last a life time.

When I tell someone this story, most people say that this is not abuse. People feel a twinge of guilt because many people have done the same thing. I am not angry with myself, but I now know the truth. If we know better we can do better.

Goldie Hawn & Rabbi Irwin Katzoff have started a world wide initiative called Words Can Heal. I have learned about my violent tendencies and the bully I used to be through their teaching.

Humbeled by my new self-awareness, a began a journey of self-discovery and learning. Therefore, I want to teach others about the epidemic of bullying in our society and especially in our schools.

Please join Mr. Howard Romanek and myself on this wake up call to the reality of bullying.  Enough people have lost their lives and enough pain has been caused by the way we use words in vain.

All of us must be involved in order to create a safer world for our children.  You can give your children the tools they need to use words in a respectful and kind manner.

Just give us your ears, open hearts & minds and listen with empathy.  Please join us.  We need you! Together we can make a difference!

Sincerely,

Marion Rosenberg
