Clinton Talks OWS, and Getting 'Back to Work' at Old Orchard

Former United States President Bill Clinton signed copies of his new book at a North Shore Barnes and Noble.

Former United States President Bill Clinton Friday urged Occupy Wall Street protestors to bring together local politicians and business owners to come up with economic initiatives. Clinton discussed OWS during a brief, morning appearance at the while promoting his latest book Back to Work: Why We Need Smart Government for a Strong Economy.

"I wrote this book to try and respond to what Occupy Wall Street and these other Occupy Movements are doing," said Clinton. "I think what they need to do now is...we know what they're against but now they need to be for something."

Stars in Skokie:

Several hundred people waited in line for the 8 a.m. event, some arriving as early as 4 a.m. Clinton spoke briefly with the press about his book, the potential of OWS and how the United States can get out of the current recession.

Clinton said that recessions, such as the 2008 economic crisis, usually last eight to 10 years. "We're somewhere between two-and-a-half to three years into this recession. My goal is to beat those terms. I'd like to get America back in less than five years," he told the crowd.

Clinton said that economic betterment will only come if the United States achieves a strong private sector and a smart government.

For attendees like Carla Cenker, Clinton's visit was a reminder of more stable times.

"The fact is that the things he dealt with and the way he dealt with them were impressive and I really miss his leadership," Cenker said.

I'm sure that Clinton's reference to the OWS "movement" will help his book sales about as much as his behavior in office helped cigar sales. He wrote the book to make money... a capitalist motive that would be found unacceptable by the OWS crowd he references.

Agreed. No point in ever writing a book. In fact, all books should be burned.

What a sad commentary on human activity that hundreds line up to give yet more money to a multi-millionaire who never did a hard day's labor and who left a history of broken lives, sex scandals, political intrigue, a bevy of money-scamming cronies from a scandal-ridden administration, a parade of lies about his own "honesty" and importance, and a political career for the wife he cheated on. What a guy! He solved no major problem during the wasted years in the White House, but smiled and had the media adore him and his power hungry wife...they all get rich and their "supporters" can't wait to give money for such "Truths." "I wrote this book to try and respond to what Occupy Wall Street and these other Occupy Movements are doing," (always tagging on to soome movement) Oh, yeah? Then the book must contain a descriptions of the way to clean up a public park, to stop defecating in public, to cease piling up garbage, to repay the NYPD for millions in overtime expenses, to end sexual harrassment, to end the criminal behavior, to stop prohibiting NORMAL people from getting to their jobs, to stop congesting bridge traffic, and on and on and on. And in a few families, the story will go on for generations how "Grandpa Met the famous Bill Clinton." In millions of other families, the tale will be of the sordid careers of Bill and Hillary and their selfish use of other people to achieve wealth and power.

Careful, Lee. Patrick may not be up to understanding the concept of sarcasm.

Clark Kent, yours is the sad commentary, that fools like you buy into the propaganda being put out there by the 1%. Here's a reality check for you: 80% of the OWS attendees are employed. This is pretty much the same as the population. (Unemployment figures only talk about those receiving unemployment benefits, don't allow for the rest of the unemployed folk.) OWS is every age from teens into their 80's. We bathe, we LOVE our country -- enough to fight for it, enough to sacrifice of ourselves, to be out in the cold when most of us do have warm homes to return to, to be risking jail and fines, while you do NOTHING to improve the state of our nation. It's blatantly obvious that you've not been to any Occupy event, or you'd know that nobody is defecating in public, piling up garbage, etc. You'd know that the only sexual assault that happened was against a protester by an outsider. And you wouldn't be trashing the good people, including combat veterans and a former NYC Chief of Police , who are standing up so "normal" people like yourself, who are too "normal" to actually stand up for anything, can benefit along with everyone else when the banks and corporations who have been choking us out for decades are finally reined in. I could go on, but there's no sense in trying to teach a pig to sing. When did Skokie become a haven for clueless GOP tools?
Sully November 21, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Tools or fools (sorry, couldn't resist). It's much easier to believe the bloviators than it is to think for oneself.
Clark Kent November 21, 2011 at 05:15 PM
Yes, mine is a sad commentary, a commentary about delusional misfits being allowed by Democratic politicians to disrupt normal people's daily lives. Your remarks prompt another sad commentary, this time on your simplistic rambling. 1) The statement about employment data is spurious and appears in "reports" in newspapers. Even IF those were the factual data, it does not excuse your completely befuddled inaccuracy about how "unemployment" is measured. 2) "...enough to sacrifice of ourselves..." Huh? What did you do? Oh, and about "We bathe"- how often? 3. "It's blatantly obvious that you've not been to any Occupy event..." WRONG AGAIN! 4. Potpourri http://urbangrounds.com/2011/10/ows-vs-tea-party/ 5. "...there's no sense in trying to teach a pig to sing..." Another inaccuracy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP7aoPhED6U I guess there is some good in the OWS thing...here apparently is perhaps the most cerebral presentation exposing corporate "greed" (of which the OWSers want their "fair share" without working for it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TK53mj89dU The following should not be viewed by children, etc., and those who fantasize about customized taylor-made delusions, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P7uuPCWXng&feature=pyv http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ3nEVCtPx0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SwKxUz7osM&feature=related BTW, were you in Iowa recently? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKK3o5n4_Oo&feature=related

Short and sweet, since your confused, twisted and intentionally convoluted nonsense isn't worth a more detailed retort: The whole world knows who Bill Clinton is, and most hold him in high regard despite the GOP's attempts to make his intimate business an issue. The whole world knows of OWS, and countless thousands, easily adding up to millions, have joined the ranks, both directly and in support. Meanwhile, precious few have heard of you (and with good reason,) and a goodly share of those few wish they hadn't. The one correction I'll provide is that OWSers don't want anything without working for it. That's another sip of Kool-aid you should have avoided, parrot. The point is that such corporations make billions by repressing and abusing the other 99%. But you obviously don't grasp the sublime difference. Finally, I attended Cornell at 16 on a full scholarship, after attending a local community college and high school concurrently. Though you may try to appear erudite, the simple fact is that you're yammering about things far beyond your cerebral grasp. Now go back under the porch, where dull-witted fools like you belong.

"When did Skokie become a haven for clueless GOP tools?" Actually, there aren't that many Republicans (based on registration data) in Skokie. It seems Skokie might be a voting pool for clueless Democratic minions. That's why gambling promoters like Lou Lang and obnoxious buccal cavities like Schakowsky flourish like mushrooms on a heap of detritus. "...banks and corporations who have been choking us out for decades are finally reined in..." Where have the Democrats been all during those years? I heard no protestations by Democrats until AFTER the crisis. . How about Bawney Fwank? What has been his contribution with other Democrats? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UZ9l_AxKjA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOJ1n2jJjqI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTbIb75JdwY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPSDnGMzIdo&feature=related An OWSer who can't provide any answers http://www.youtube.com/user/raystevensmusic
John Taylor November 21, 2011 at 06:14 PM
Typical and predictable of you and your ilk ("Bawney Fwank"). You heard no protestations because your GW "The Patriot Act" Bush and his minions had your little brain all wrapped up in the BS. But again you seem confused. I'm not a Democrat, nor are most of the OWS folk. Those who are paying attention tend to see both the Dems and the GOP as two sides of a dysfunctional coin. Now, since that's the best you can do and I have better things to spend my time on... Adios. Get the last word if you must.
Clark Kent November 21, 2011 at 07:10 PM
Dear Mr. Taylor, BA (or is it BS?): I never accused you of being a Democrat. In fact, I am not actually aware of what you are let alone who you are. And while I wouldn't want to hurt your feelings, I don't care. But now the world knows that you're a BIG RED! Nevertheless, I am glad that you proffered the very, very, very, very, very important information regarding your academic pedigree. It adds so much to any discussion, and reminds us less worthy types to whom we must pay deference and obeisance. Actually, sitting around a fire trying to warm up and passing around a bottle of Ripple my confreres and I were glad to learn of your self-acclaimed academic credentials since we wondered (based on your apparent reading abilities, rhetoric and rationality, whether or not you had any education. Problem solved! Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52eX95_85SM Very few know that I live under a porch, so I hope you are not stalking me or Lois Lane or Jimmy. "...I have better things to spend my time on..." Oh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVlN-dWFwhU I have to get back to work, too. Somebody has to pay for the ObamaNation. I'll just sing my way to happiness! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc9AN0pxYGI Bye! Your friend-in-need, Clark Kent PS: Is this your Alma Mater, too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNK5KzI48mM

I understand the concept of sarcasm as that was the brunt of my comment, John. I also understand the concept of knee-jerk stupidity of partisans on both sides defending politicians. I have no problem with Clinton writing a book on his views regarding economics, just as I have no problem with him writing a book on fidelity in marriage. It is my opinion, however, that he has little credibility in either area.

Always believers in the great right-wing sphere of influence (give us your uneducated, your gullible, etc, etc...). It's so easy to fool most of the people most of the time. http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/part-i-right-wing-playbook-occupy-wall-street http://upwithchrishayes.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/11/19/8896362-exclusive-lobbying-firms-memo-spells-out-plan-to-undermine-occupy-wall-street-video I doubt the Rush worshipers will bother to view these links, but hey, who knows? The point is, the "Occupy" movement is not made up of uninformed thugs. That's just what your pundit gods want you to believe so you'll continue to support the one percent even though you're in no way anywhere near their status, and they couldn't care less about you. You keep them in power, so that's enough for them.

The point is, the "Tea Party" movement is not made up of uninformed dupes. That's just what your pundit gods want you to believe so you'll continue to support the so-called ninety-nine percent even though you're comparable to a percentage of their mental condition, and they couldn't care less about you. You keep them in power, so that's enough for them. A MOMENT OF UNADULTRATED SANITY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q59ZcFguUOo&feature=channel_video_title (The “unadulterated” has nothing to do with the adulterous behavior of the economic whiz, husband Clinton and his various trysts while on the public payroll. Nothing at all!)
