In other areas, residents from various Patch communities shared photos, some of which show cars practically under water.

Students also got a “rain day.”

Northeastern University, Oakton Community College, DePaul University and other schools all closed due to the heavy rain. The Skokie Courthouse was also closed as a result of the weather.

A sinkhole swallowed three cars in Chicago and several expressways were also closed. Gov. Pat Quinn has declared a state of emergency following the rainfall.
