Skokie's Best Burger Winner Is ...

Find out who the readers voted as having the best burger in town.

On Monday, Patch asked its readers a simple, but delicious question: Who has the best burger in Skokie?

After four days of voting, Skokie's very own Poochies came out on top, receiving 124 votes, or 30 percent.

"It's an honor," said Poochies owner Chris Christou. "It's not only good to see your place busy, but when you see the community rally behind you to say you're the best, it's a good feeling.

"The one thing I always say is nobody is perfect, but we try to get as close as possible," Christou added. "It's all about making the customer happy and making the perfect sandwich."

Crafting that perfect burger may be a result of a dedicated team led by Christou. One employee, who only goes by the name "Big G," has been with the restaurant for seven years. Kira Karras, 24, is known to work the grill and has been with Poochies for five years. There's also two newcomers - a set of twins - in Lizzie and Gwen Robinson, both 20, who have been with the company for about a year now.

To their credit, you could say Poochies is an iconic location. ESPN 1000’s Marc Silverman of the Waddle and Silvy show has spoken on the air about his love for eating at the popular restaurant, the Chicago Cubs also have Poochie's cater their organization on opening day and many of Christou’s customers have been eating at the restaurant for decades.

Readers can find Poochies at their new location at 3602 W. Dempster St.

"The new location is great," Christou said. "In the summer time, we were rocking and rolling ... I'd also like to add that I'm sure our competition and our peers in the area do a nice job, but we always try to make our food a little bit better."
