Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos Celebration on Nov. 1 at Niles West

The community
is invited to a Day of the Dead Celebration held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday,
November 1 at Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton, Skokie in Room 1161. Day of
the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a holiday that is celebrated throughout
Mexico and other cultures to honor and remember friends and family who have
died. Traditions associated with the holiday include building altars called ofrendas, decorating sugar skulls,
telling favorite stories and anecdotes about loved ones, and enjoying special
foods.

Join the
celebration to view the ofrenda, have
a snack, and learn about this unique holiday. Activities for children include
arts and crafts stations, including making masks and skeletons, assisted by
high school volunteers from the Futuro Latino Club.
