Ensemble Espanol Flamenco Passion Gala Performances Feature World Premiere of "Mil Clavos" at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie June 20-22

Chicago’s unique contribution to the elegance and passion of Spain’s dance, music and culture is showcased in Ensemble Español's 38th American Spanish Dance & Music Festival, June 11 through June 22. Capping the festival will be the wildly popular festival-capping "Flamenco Passion" Gala performances Friday, June 20 and Saturday June 21 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m.  The performances will feature two U.S. Premieres and four World Premieres, including a three-movement Spanish contemporary ballet "Mil Clavos."  The ballet was choreographed by internationally acclaimed choreographer, former Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancer and Ensemble Español Company member Ron De Jesús in collaboration with the Ensemble Español dancers, is created in honor of Ensemble Español and Founder and Artistic Director Dame Libby Komaiko.

Joining Ensemble Español for the "Flamenco Passion" performances will be guest dancers and choreographers including Carmela Greco (Madrid), daughter of the legendary Jose Greco; acclaimed Flamenco artist Manuel Reyes (Cordoba); Pol Vaquero (Cordoba), former soloist and first dancer of the National Ballet of Spain; and former prima ballerina with National Ballet of Spain, Gala Vivancos (Barcelona).

The impressive roster of guest singers and musicians will include Flamenco singer and guitarist Paco Fonta (Miami), Venezuelan-born percussionist Javier Saume Mazzei, Flamenco guitarist David Chiriboga and Flamenco singer Patricia "La Tiranta" (Cordoba).
