University Guild Program: Opera Behind The Scenes - from Training to Curtain Calls

University Guild Program:  Opera Behind the Scenes:  From Training to Curtain Calls

Join us in the University Guild Lounge of Northwestern University’s Scott Hall on Monday, February 4th at 1:30 pm to hear Northwestern-educated
author/director Geoffrey Edwards and his father, Metropolitan Opera baritone Ryan Edwards, offer personal insights into preparing, launching, and sustaining
an operatic career.  They will also share backstage anecdotes about some of opera's best-loved stars and secrets to the success of their own father-son creative partnership.

Geoffrey Edwards is an award-winning author and stage director, who has served as artistic director of the Marquee Theatre Company and resident stage director for the DuPage Opera Theatre.  He received his PhD in Theatre and Drama from Northwestern University and has served on academic faculties in both the United States
and Europe.  His father, Ryan Edwards, received international acclaim as a singing actor during his career as a leading baritone with the Metropolitan Opera.  Author, teacher, and artistic consultant, he most recently served as president of the National Opera Association.  Together, they have written extensively about music and opera.  Their books include The Verdi Baritone, as well as Verdi and Puccini Heroines."
