In Search of Sandhill Cranes

Hundreds of Sandhill Cranes fly in large skeins along the shores of Lake Michigan during the seasonal migration to their wintering grounds every fall, their gargling calls heard high above. Our trip by van will take us to one of the Sandhill's stopping areas -- the Jasper Pulaski Wildlife Refuge in Indiana -- where we'll be able to see great numbers of these large birds. We'll walk various trails to view the cranes in the fields and as they fly to their roosting site at dusk. Dress for the outdoors and bring a sack lunch. Dinner at a roadside restaurant is included in the trip fee. Ages 18+. Call 847-677-7001 to register. $45 for Skokie residents, $56 for non-residents.
